What is Skin Rejuvenation?
Skin rejuvenation treatment with the Ellipse I2PL helps you keep a younger and fresher look. The safe, visible light emitted from the Ellipse I2PL flash-lamp makes your face look younger by removing age spots and diffuse redness, and by improving your skin texture. Uneven pigmentation is also reduced.
What is Intense Pulsed Light?
In its simplest form, this is a way of saying short flashes of very bright light. Ellipse I2PL uses short, safe bursts of light emitted from a flash-lamp to treat specific skin conditions. The technology is rather sophisticated, the Ellipse I2PL system very carefully controls the overall delivery of the light - both the amount of light and the speed of its delivery to your specific skin condition are exact and precisely controlled by Ellipse I2PL's built-in computer.
The difference between laser and Intense Pulsed Light
Treatments with laser and with intense pulsed light both work in the same way, choosing wavelengths that are absorbed by the target. But while a laser uses light with one specific wavelength, intense pulsed light uses a band of wavelengths.
Can I be treated?
As skin rejuvenation is based on light absorption by melanin and hemoglobin, treatments are most effective in patients with light skin who are not sun-tanned at the time of the treatment. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the contrast between the age spots or blood vessels and the skin, making treatment easier. However, Ellipse I2PL has pre-programmed settings for different skin colors that deliver the correct energy output for you complexion.
Does it hurt?
Tolerance of pain varies greatly from person to person. No anesthetics are required, and many patients describe it as a warming sensation similar to the feeling one has after a day on the beach.
Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?
The light used is a completely safe, visible light. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed by the unique Ellipse I2PL Dual Mode Filtering system. Since tanning takes place by accumulation of pigment(melanin) in the skin, it is important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium or self-tanning cream) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise, your tanned skin will absorb more light, which may lead to adverse effects. Generally, no post-treatment care is necessary. But people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying an ice pack to the face immediately after treatment. Furthermore, it is recommended to use a sunblock which blocks UVA and UVB (minimum SPF 30) for a few weeks following treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?
You may notice that the skin looks a little "discolored" for a few days following treatment. After that, you will find that your skin looks smoother and fresher. You might choose to have one or two annual maintenance treatments in order to keep your youthful appearance.

Fraxel® treatment promotes your skin's own healing process, resulting in natural rejuvenation that removes years from your appearance.
Depending on your skin, you can decide how you want to attain the remarkable results Fraxel treatment delivers. Aggressive treatments require fewer sessions and result in more post treatment side-effects - meaning a few days of social downtime. Less aggressive treatments accomplish the same results, with a few more treatment sessions and less pronounced side-effects. For some types of skin and skin conditions, gentle and/or fewer treatments are best. Fraxel treatment was specifically engineered to give your physician complete treatment control, based on your particular needs.
How Fraxel® treatment works
The technology behind Fraxel treatment is as revolutionary as the results it can deliver. Unlike other laser treatments, Fraxel treatment is able to precisely treat thousands of microscopic areas of skin, using pinpoint laser beams that penetrate beneath the skin's surface to eliminate old, damaged skin cells. Fraxel treatment stimulates the body's own natural healing process which replaces damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.
Your personalized Fraxel treatment plan
Your skin is unique - your genetic make-up, lifestyle and personal history all contribute to how your skin looks and feels. With Fraxel treatment, your physician can develop a treatment plan tailored to your skin's individual needs.
By design, Fraxel Treatments can target between approximately 5 to 50 percent of the skin's surface, leaving the remaining 50 to 95 percent available to quickly heal the treated areas. Since Fraxel treatment is so precise, it's safe and effective on delicate skin areas like the neck, chest, and hands, in addition to the face. You can expect two levels of results, immediate and progressive. Immediately after initial healing is complete, the surface of your skin will feel softer, look brighter, and tone will start to become even. Progressive results occur over the next three to six months as the deeper layers of skin continue to heal.
How is this Fraxel technology different?
Fraxel uses a laser to resurface damaged skin. With this new technology, there are now two laser treatment modes: one specifically treats concerns such as wrinkles or acne scarring that are deeper in the skin layers. The second treatment mode is new and effectively targets sun spots, age spots and tone and texture, which are more superficial.
What are the benefits of the new technology?
This new technology has all the benefits that we love about Fraxel, faster treatment times, increased comfort and an additional treatment mode for pigmentation. The results are comparable to superficial CO2 resurfacing results but without the degree of downtime or wound care. What can I expect after treatment?
Generally, patients will experience some redness for several days. As your skin heals, you may see bronzing and peeling. There is no wound care, but you may apply moisturizer and sun protection as instructed. After the healing process, you can expect:

How long until I see the results?
You may see some results immediately after treatment and after the healing process is complete. Results continue to improve over time and throughout your series of treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone's skin is different, but typically patients can expect great results in multiple sessions, depending on your desired outcomes. These sessions are generally spaced 2 to 6 weeks apart.
